Uploading Documents¶
Upload project documents to SiteWhiz.
Overview¶
SiteWhiz supports two methods for adding documents to your projects:
- Manual Upload - Drag and drop or browse to upload files
- Cloud Sync - Automatic sync from Dropbox or OneDrive
This guide covers manual uploads. For cloud storage, see Cloud Storage.
Supported File Types¶

Maximum File Size
Individual files can be up to 50 MB. For larger files, consider compressing or splitting them.
Uploading via Admin App¶
Drag and Drop¶

Navigate to your project.

Click on Documents in the sidebar or project menu.

Drag files from your computer and drop them onto the documents area.

A progress indicator shows the upload status.

When complete, documents appear in the list.
Browse to Upload¶

Navigate to Documents in your project.

Click the Upload button (or + icon).

Browse to select files from your computer.

Click Open to start the upload.
Upload Progress¶
While uploading:
- A progress bar shows upload percentage
- Large files show estimated time remaining
- You can continue working while files upload
After upload completes:
- Documents enter a processing state
- AI extracts text and indexes content
- Status changes to Ready when complete
Document Processing¶
After upload, SiteWhiz processes your documents:

Processing Time
Large PDFs with many pages may take longer to process. You can still view the document while processing continues.
Organizing Documents¶
Categories¶
Documents can be categorized for easy filtering:
- Plans - Drawings and blueprints
- Contracts - Legal documents
- Permits - Certifications and approvals
- Reports - Inspection reports and summaries
- Other - Miscellaneous documents
Naming Best Practices¶
- Use descriptive names:
Building-A_Floor-2_Electrical.pdf - Include dates when relevant:
2024-01-15_Inspection-Report.pdf - Avoid special characters that may cause issues
Bulk Upload¶
To upload multiple files at once:

Select multiple files using Ctrl+Click (Windows) or Cmd+Click (Mac).

Drag all selected files to the documents area.

Or use the file browser and select multiple files.

All files upload in parallel.
Troubleshooting¶
Upload Fails¶
If your upload fails:
- Check your internet connection
- Verify the file is not corrupted
- Ensure the file size is under 50 MB
- Try a different browser
Document Not Processing¶
If a document stays in "Processing" state:
- Wait at least 10 minutes for large files
- Try refreshing the page
- If still stuck, delete and re-upload the document
Can't View Uploaded Document¶
If you can't view a document:
- Wait for processing to complete (status: Ready)
- Ensure your browser supports PDF viewing
- Try downloading the file to view locally
